Varietal: 100% Nebbiolo

Founded in 1999 with 2ha, his holdings now consist of 7.4 in Bussia including Vigna dei Fantini, which is the highest elevation site in Bussia and sits directly on above the famed Pianpolvere Soprano. Silvano earned his enology degree from the school in Alba and has been a full-time professor for more than 20 years. Silvano’s children, Alessandra and Francesco, have now joined him. "Vigna dei Fantini" is the highest elevation in Bussia sitting just above Pianpolvere Soprano, 0.6ha. at 450m, 50% green harvest in June, final yield 1.2kg. Planted on sandy miocene sea sediment, rich in fossils and shells. 12 months in neutral barrique, 12 months in 30HL Slovenian Oak to decrease oxygen contact, 12 months in bottle, unfiltered. Less than 300 cases produced.

The 2016 Barolo Vigne dei Fantini is dark, powerful and beguiling. A whole range of heady, balsamic- inflected nuances emerge as this sumptuous, beautifully layered Barolo shows off its considerable charms. Plush, racy and forward, the 2016 will also drink well with minimal cellaring. The 2016 is impressive, and also one of the best wines I have tasted from Silvano Bolmida to date. 94 -Antonio Galloni
